The show has seven seasons and the brainchild of Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel, executive producers for the first six seasons, then replaced european imports by David S. The series, set nellimmaginaria town of Stars Hollow (Connecticut), tells the story of two girls Gilmore, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel), mother and daughter united by a very deep bond. Gilmore has consistently received acclaim for his dialogues (original, brilliant, light-hearted, full of smart and never banal humor), for the topics european imports (family european imports relationships, friendship, love, sex, the transition from 'the age adult adolescence, the generation gap) and for the performance of the actors who make up the cast. For these reasons, the series has won several awards and nominations, and is included in the list of the 100 best TV shows of TIME magazine in 2007.

At the end of the sixth season, the couple announced that they would leave the show due to disagreements with the network. The series thus ended without the final envisioned by its creator. The absolute protagonists are Lorelai Victoria Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her daughter Lorelai "Rory" Leigh Gilmore (Alexis Bledel). At the beginning of the show Rory is 15 years old (although in the pilot's mother says that he has 16, Rory celebrates his birthday a few episodes later), and at the end of the series he is 23. The series explores the interpersonal relationships and intergenerational in a profound way, all packed into a small town with many unique characters, such as the grumpy bartender friend of Luke, Lorelai, the all-rounder Kirk, chairman of the town and the owner of the grocery store and the town busybody Taylor Doose Patty and Babette. Hallmark of Gilmore Girls are very fast and tight dialogue between the characters, especially between Lorelai and Rory, and the constant references to pop culture, to music and movies more or less famous; this type of humor, very particular, has brought a lot of success with the series. Just for the humor also based on eccentric characters this show is often compared to another successful series broadcast in Italy with the U.S.
