European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was established on May 3, 1960 as a trade bloc-alternative canada customs limits for European states who are unable, or choose not to join the European Economic Community (EEC) (now the European Union (EU)).
EFTA Convention was signed on January 4, 1960 in Stockholm by seven countries. Today only Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein are still become a member of EFTA (Norway and Switzerland because it is a founding member).
